Masterpiece Theatre – Romance Collection (DVD)

This Masterpiece Theatre collection presents three sweepingly romantic BBC mini-series of adulterous passion at odds with social convention. ANNA KARENINA (2001) adapts Leo Tolstoy`s classic novel about the wife (Helen McCrory) of a high-ranking Russian official who carries on a torrid affair with an army officer (TRAINSPOTTING`s Kevin McKidd) in a daring documentary style coupled with luxurious period-piece costumes and set design. An innovative production of Emily Brontk`s Gothic WUTHERING HEIGHTS (1998) follows the tragic tale of two lovers (Orla Brady and Robert Cavanah) thwarted by class differences on the windswept moors of 19th-century England beyond most normal film adaptations to capture the entire novel. And RECKLESS (1997) and RECKLESS: THE SEQUEL (1998) offer a modern soap opera about a young doctor (Robson Green) who falls in love with the wife (Francesca Annis) of a coworker and decides to seduce her away from her husband.
